About Human Expenditure Program

Human Expenditure Program is a horror-visual novel by SHROOMYCHRIST, released on September 12, 2025 for PC. It’s the sequel to BLOODMONEY! and takes the dark narrative even deeper into psychological horror, moral ambiguity, and emotional stakes. If you’re into intense stories, twisted relationships, and being forced to question what you’d do in a crisis, this one’s for you.

What Is Human Expenditure Program About?

You play as Eun-Mi Harvington, a programmer and entrepreneur with a disturbing secret. You have transferred your husband Harvey’s consciousness into a simulation. But that’s not all: every night after you put Harvey to sleep, you force him into the BLOODMONEY! simulation, where players pay to torture him. Then you reset his memories so he doesn't remember. Rinse and repeat. You earn money; no one outside the simulation is physically harmed—at least that’s how things are supposed to go.

But of course, things aren’t that simple, and the game leads you through the horror of what this really means—for Harvey, for Eun-Mi, and for the player.

Game Features

  • Two endings: your choices and actions lead to branching outcomes.
  • Five mini-games interspersed through the narrative.
  • Strong narrative focus: horror, psychological thriller, sad / suspense themes.
  • Virtual pet / care mechanics: feeding, petting, caring for Harvey as if he’s a pet but with full consciousness.
  • Made with RPG Maker; inputs via keyboard + mouse; supports subtitles.

How to Play & What to Expect

  • Duration: The average play session runs about half an hour.
  • Controls: Interact via mouse & keyboard. You’ll be navigating through menus, making decisions, doing minigames, and managing Harvey’s well-being.
  • Mini-games: These break up the visual novel narrative. You’ll need to balance care (feeding / emotional support etc.) with moral choices and possibly tougher survival or risk-oriented tasks.
  • Moral choice & consequences: How you treat Harvey, whether you maintain the simulation, how you deal with memory resets—these affect which ending you get.

Why Play Human Expenditure Program

  • It deepens the lore of BLOODMONEY! and answers tough questions about Harvey, Eun-Mi, and their relationship.
  • The narrative is emotionally impactful and disturbing—perfect for players who like horror + storytelling.
  • The production values stand out: voice acting, visuals, sound design get praise in the community.

Things to Be Aware Of

  • This game is intense: it deals with psychological horror, ethical dilemmas, emotional trauma. Might be triggering for some.
  • Some mini-games / save mechanics reportedly have bugs (glitches, difficulty with endings) according to community feedback.
  • Because of the heavy storyline, pacing can be slow in parts (dialogue + moral decision making).

Final Thoughts

Human Expenditure Program pushes the boundaries of what a horror visual novel can do. It’s not just about scares—it’s about guilt, identity, memory, and moral responsibility. Playing Harvey’s suffering while trying to rationalize what's being done for profit is emotionally taxing but powerful. If you can handle heavy themes, the payoff is real.
