About Shady Cats
Shady Cats is a fun but challenging arcade platformer where every move can become your next obstacle. Control a cute cat, jump across platforms, collect fish, and avoid the shadow cats that retrace your previous movements. The longer you survive, the more crowded and dangerous the stage becomes. Quick reflexes help, but smart movement is the real key to a high score.
Outrun the Shadows of Your Past
The main challenge in Shady Cats is its unique shadow-chasing mechanic. Every route you take is repeated by a shadow cat shortly afterward. If you cross its path, your run can end instantly. This means you cannot simply run around collecting every fish you see. You need to plan your route, time your jumps, and avoid returning to platforms where a shadow is approaching.
Collecting fish helps increase your score, while special golden fish can provide score multipliers and trigger additional hazards. Fireflies are especially useful because catching one can remove an active shadow, giving you more room to move.
Explore Game Modes and Play with Friends
Shady Cats offers Normal and Crazy modes for different challenges. Normal Mode focuses on surviving as long as possible, while Crazy Mode carries shadows from previous levels into the next stage, making each round harder.
You can also share the keyboard with up to three friends in local multiplayer. Each player controls a separate cat and must avoid their own shadows while navigating the same platforms. With five locations, including the Backyard, Living Room, Rooftop, Kitchen, and Fishing Pier, every session offers a new setting for the chase.
Unlock Cats and Collect Rewards
Surviving longer earns coins that can be used to unlock new cat outfits. The game features 22 cats to collect, along with 48 medals and leaderboards where you can compare your best scores with other players. Between levels in Crazy Mode, you can also choose power-up cards such as Shield, Vanish, Slowdown, and Magnet to improve your chances of survival.
How to Play Shady Cats
Move your cat left or right and jump between platforms to collect fish while staying away from pursuing shadows.
Keyboard controls:
Player 1: A/D to move, W to jump (Q/D and Z on AZERTY).
Player 2: F/H to move, T to jump.
Player 3: J/L to move, I to jump.
Player 4: Left/Right Arrow Keys to move, Up Arrow to jump.
Tips to Survive Longer
Avoid backtracking: Your shadow may be following the route you just used.
Plan your jumps: Check where you will land before changing direction.
Use fireflies wisely: Catch them when shadows begin to limit your escape routes.
Watch special collectibles: Golden fish offer bigger rewards but can introduce extra hazards.
Choose useful power-ups: Select cards that match the dangers you face in each level.
Coordinate in multiplayer: Keep enough distance from other players and their shadows.
